Some words from Sylvester (1) - 30 September 2006
Magical notes....
When I wrote my first song at the age of 13 (which I will ressurect and share with you), I had the impression that music was simply a beautiful sound, which constituted rules, the right chords, should always have the right instrumentation and all the instruments should be harmoniously set up in the field. Today, 15 years later my experience and my heart say that music is not simply all these. Listening to many songs all these years, from various composers of all genres of music, I came to the conclusion that finally there exists something more... that I shall call "magical notes". A song can be constituted (regarding to its basic melody) from about 30-40 notes (more or less), but which are the "right" notes? Which are the notes that might speak to both the mind and heart of the listener? The notes that will accomplish to have the listener travel to where he/she wants to travel, that will give him the possibility of dreaming, of hoping, of being calm, of thinking clearly, to love, and to be loved?
Magical notes therefore exist. No books exist that would write them. They are found deep in the mind and the heart of the composer. You cannot study magical notes. All alone, they surface, emerge and in a magical way they enter into your music without letting you know how. They make the difference and they are what touch upon the listener, deep in his heart. These are the leaves that sweet flavour when the song comes to its end and they make you say "I want to listen to it again...." . One day someone, while listening to my music, told me that "if as a person you could accomplish to touch upon the heart of another person, with the same way that your music touches upon my heart, then you would be Jesus Christ" and i answered him "when I compose music, Jesus Christ is seated besides me and fills my heart and my mind with.... magical notes".
